The Electoral Commission has granted provisional certificate to the United Progressive Party (UPP), a new political party founded by the 2012 presidential candidate of the United Front Party (UFP), Akwasi Addai Odike, Starr News has gathered.

The party was issued with the certificate after ?partially? satisfying the necessary requirements of the EC regarding party registration.

The provisional certificate does not grant the party the right to campaign ahead of the 2016 elections until it is issued with the final certificate.

Odike has had back-and-forth with his parent party over ownership after the 2012 elections.

A statement issued by the party and signed by the Acting National Chairman Stephen Forson, weeks ago, barred him from holding himself as ?a member holding any position in the party or putting himself up for elections to any position in the party indefinitely?.
