Upper East Region gets new butchery


A butchers? shop , five market stalls, and two five-unit lockable stores, have been completed for the Gbantongo Community in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.

The construction of a pair of two seat KVIP toilets has also been completed by the Assembly and in use by the community.

Mr Simon Agbango Anyan, District Chief Executive (DCE), in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Zebilla, said an amount of GHC 894,231 was earmarked for the projects which started in 2012.

Mr Agbango said, so far GHC344, 000 had been spent on the projects, and hoped they would reduce congestion at the market place, and also promote good hygiene at the butchers? shop.

Under the same fund, a three-unit classroom block with an office and a store, has been completed for the Azanga Primary School, while the construction of a six-unit classroom block and ancillary facilities at Kobore, were also 70 per cent complete.

An amount of 164,088.88 was also expended for the rehabilitation of the bungalows of the District Chief Executive and Coordinating Director.

Construction of an office block for the District Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service was also underway, with work about 28 per cent complete, the DCE added.
