The US Department of State has announced new visa restrictions targeting individuals in Ghana who undermine democracy, particularly as the country approaches its presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7, 2024.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s statement, released on October 28, emphasizes the US commitment to supporting a peaceful and credible electoral process.
The restrictions will apply to specific individuals involved in actions such as electoral manipulation, violence, and intimidation of voters or political representatives.
Family members of those implicated may also face restrictions. The policy aims to uphold Ghana’s democratic achievements over the past three decades.
