International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is an external program that is offered to students around the world. The students are usually between thirteen and fifteen years. There is a wide range of subjects to choose from. Students usually take the exams to have a shot of joining the universities. It is becoming more popular and more students are registering for these subjects.
Benefits of IGCSE
IGCSE is usually exam based and not certified courses and is used to test ones knowledge on different subjects as is the case with the SAT Subject tests and Advanced Placement exams. This is good for those that are home schooled as well as those taking Adult education who do not have time to attend school full time. In addition, it helps prepare them for further education and is recognized by employers’ worldwide as well as academic institutions.
Grading
This is done on eight point levels that is A to G. The international schools allow students to take up to 14 subjects. C is the minimum required for the 5 core subjects. The curriculum is offered in many languages as it covers many countries around the world. The subjects that one will choose to take will range from languages such as English, French, Urdu and Spanish among many others.
Passing the IGCSE exams
Below are some things one needs to do to ensure that they pass:
- Take notes and do all the homework given throughout the year
- Take time to listen to the explanations of the teacher
- Work on improving your grades and remember English is a subject that cannot be studied but can be improved by reading newspapers, magazines, books etc.
- Always remember that the minimum is a C and aim at getting higher as anything below is a fail
- Remember all that you have been taught by going through the notes over and over again. Be sure to take breaks to digest what you are studying
- Review all the exams that you have done so as to know the mistakes made and learn from them
- Print past IGCSE papers and when it comes to the real exams you will have a clear understanding of how it is sorted making you more relaxed through the exam.
- Never leave any empty spaces as you do the exams
- Do not cheat as when you are caught you automatically fail
Studying with friends is a good idea as it will help you with any problem that you may have - When you are doing calculations ensure that your workings are clear as they can help you get extra marks in Maths
- Go through the exam paper before starting so as to know what it entails and avoid shocks
- Working harder on the subject that on the subjects that you are weak in as it will help in improving the grade
- Ensure that you have the right tools to avoid panic that may cause to forget what you have studied.
IGCSE is balanced with a curriculum that is flexible. The course work maybe hard but it will encourage one to learn new things. Passing the exams will ensure them a bright future and getting good grades is guaranteed if they take the subjects seriously and take time to study each day.
