Professor Kwadwo Appiah -Adinkra, the Vice Chancellor of the Sunyani Technical University, has appealed to government and private organisations to provide the university with laboratory equipment to enhance practical studies.
He said the university’s laboratory ought to be upgraded to meet the growing demand of technical education among students.
Prof Appiah-Adinkra made the appeal at a fund raising ceremony held in Sunyani over the weekend.
Oboaman Bofotia Boa-Aponsem II, the Krontihene of the Sunyani Traditional Council, organised the fund raising rally in an effort to seek funds for a theatre for the university as part of activities to mark the 10th anniversary celebration of his enstoolment.
Prof Appiah-Adinkra expressed concern about the few practical tools and equipment available at the university’s laboratory adding that they were obsolete and impeded practical studies.
The Vice Chancellor said the clinic at the university needed rehabilitation and expansion works.
Prof Appiah-Adinkra said the facility which contained only 15 beds catered for more than 5,000 students, lecturers and other auxiliary workers.
Oboaman Bofotia Boa-Amposem II appealed to corporate bodies, philanthropists and NGOs to support the project in cash or kind.
Mrs Evelyn Ama Kumi Richardson, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, pledged to support the project with 100 bags of cement.
