Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia chairs the National COVID-19 Daily Monitoring Team, the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has said.
The Minister said this in an answer to a question on the role of the Vice President in the COVID-19 fight, at a media briefing, in Accra on Tuesday.
The briefing was to update citizens on Ghana’s COVID-19 situation and combat measures.
The COVID-19 monitoring team, which consists of representatives of stakeholder bodies leading the charge against the respiratory virus, meets daily under the Chairmanship of the Vice President to assess the progress and challenges.
It also coordinates the relevant bodies to ensure the urgent distribution of the required PPE to frontline health workers.
Another important initiative, which Dr. Bawumia’s Monitoring Committee was spearheading, the Minister said, was digitizing the process of data collection for contact tracing and testing for swift analysis.
The digitization of the process had also resulted in the building of a mobile application, which will be rolled out by weekend to enable Ghanaians to easily track updates on COVID-19 cases in Ghana through mobile phones.
Meanwhile, following a successful meeting between the Government and the Bank of Ghana last week, the Central Bank has decided to contribute GHS2.5m for food items for the poor and vulnerable communities in the 40 Greater Accra Metropolitan and Greater Kumasi Metro areas under the restriction of movement order.
