Education Veep Scholarship

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has lauded the warm bilateral relations between Ghana and China and expressed the Akufo-Addo-led government’s commitment to further deepen the relationship.

Dr Bawumia made these remarks via Zoom when he delivered the keynote address to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ghana and China.

The event was held on the theme: “60 Years of Ghana-China Diplomatic Relations: A Journey Worth Celebrating and Pondering”.

It was held under the auspices of the Embassy of Ghana, China, Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Centre for African Studies, Peking University.

Ghana established diplomatic relations with China in July 1960 after attaining a Republican status.

Vice President Bawumia said the personal friendship between the first President of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Chairman Mao of China laid a strong foundation for the burgeoning relations between the two countries at that time and continued till date.

“Over the years, the relations between the two countries have been matured and strengthened by successive Ghanaian and Chinese Leaders, as well as, by the people of both countries.

“Under the distinguished leadership of Presidents Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Xi Jinping, our relations have become more robust and diverse, touching practically all conceivable spheres of development, especially in trade and investment, culture and education,” Dr Bawumia added.

The Vice President emphasised that the Akufo-Addo-led Administration was committed to enhancing and deepening the longstanding relationship between the two nations for their mutual benefit.
