The 2024 Division One League Super Cup final will feature a highly anticipated showdown between newly promoted Premier League side Vision FC and Okwahu United.
This year’s Super Cup, hosted for the first time in the Brong Ahafo Region, saw Vision FC, Young Apostles, and Basake Holy Stars compete alongside the second and third-placed teams from the Division One zones: Okwahu United, Hohoe United, Techiman Heroes, Holy Stars, and Liberty Professionals.
Since its inception, the Super Cup has garnered attention and provided entertainment during the off-season, elevating the competitive spirit of Division One football.
The tournament includes the champions, runners-up from the three Division One League zones, and the two best third-placed teams.
The participating teams were divided into two groups of four, leading to a group stage before the semi-finals.
Okwahu United narrowly defeated Techiman Heroes 1-0 in the semi-finals, while Vision FC advanced after a goalless draw with Young Apostles, which was resolved by a 4-3 penalty shootout victory.
The Super Cup is a preparatory platform for the zonal champions heading into the Premier League and a valuable pre-season opportunity for the other teams ahead of the new Division One League season.
Although Young Apostles and Techiman Heroes did not make it to the final, they will compete for third place in a bronze medal match on Saturday.
The final, scheduled for Sunday at Nana Kronamansah Park, will see Vision FC and Okwahu United vie for the coveted trophy.
Vision FC’s victory would further solidify their Premier League ambitions, while Okwahu United, aiming for a return to the Premier League after over a decade, views this as a crucial moment for their campaign.
