The Volta Regional Coordinating Council officially launched the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), the newly implemented government initiative aimed at enhancing the region’s road network, creating employment opportunities, and boosting economic growth.

Led by the Government of Ghana in collaboration with key stakeholders, including J. A. Plant Pool Ghana Limited a member of the Jospong GroupofCompanies, the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation & Rural Development, and the Ministry of Roads and Transport, the programme seeks to improve accessibility, reduce travel times, and increase economic empowerment for citizens.

Launching the initiative, the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, noted that the success of DRIP relies on the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including Municipal and District Assemblies, security services, and the general public.

He therefore urged all parties to play their roles diligently to ensure the programme’s objectives are met.

“I urge you to make efficient use of this opportunity to develop your districts and better the lives of the citizenry,” he implored.

He further called on the Presiding Members together with their Assembly Members to support the Programme and ensure the uniform development of their Electoral Areas.

“We are all to serve as checks on each other, discuss issues, and not take entrenched positions on issues to ensure the smooth implementation of the DRIP,” he advised.

He added that “technical advice should never be ignored or standards compromised to ensure quality and timely work is executed”.

According to the minister, it was necessary to involve the Minerals Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency in the implementation of the programme to ensure that the natural environment is not degraded.

The programme will provide essential road construction equipment to assemblies, including bulldozers, backhoes, and tipper trucks, to facilitate efficient execution.

The launch of DRIP marks a significant milestone in the region’s development journey, paving the way for transformative development and a brighter future for the region’s citizens.
