Voting commenced in most polling stations across the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency in the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.

At the Oforikrom Amusing Centre Constituency, voting started at exactly 0700 hours with all materials being intact.

Some of the voters the Ghana News Agency (GNA) spoke to said they had to spend the night at the polling station just to exercise their franchise on time to avoid the rush hour.

Mr George Osei Nti, the Presiding Officer of the Polling Station, disclosed that as at 0330 hours when he arrived at the polling station, long queues had already been formed.

He said all the materials needed for the elections were intact with 856 electorate expected to cast their ballots.

“We have enough materials for the exercise and we are all set for the day’s activity, and to ensure order, and peaceful election, the electorate will be voting according to numbers,” he said.

He explained that four parliamentary candidates from the National Democratic Congress, New Patriotic Party, Convention People’s Party and People’s National Convention were competing in the Constituency and they all had their agents representing them.

Mr Kofi Mensah, the first person to cast his vote, told the GNA, he came to the polling station at 2130 hours on December 6 to wait for the Day to break.

The GNA observed that voting was going on smoothly amidst tight security.

The GNA also observed that special treatment was accorded the aged, nursing and pregnant mothers as well as persons with disability.
