Voting in Kumbungu Constituency delayed

Voting at Kumbungu Constituency in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential and Parliamentary primaries could not start at 0700 hours because of issues with the voters’ register.

Mr Abdul Moomin Alhassan Fuseini, Northern Regional Communications Director of NDC, who confirmed the incident, said some parliamentary aspirants in the Constituency raised concerns on certain names in the register and refused to allow the register to be used for the elections.

He said the issues were resolved around 0930 hours.

Meanwhile polls have opened at most polling stations across the Northern Region to elect 31 parliamentary candidates of the NDC as well as confirm the candidacy of President John Mahama for the 2016 general election.

A total of 321,853 registered party members in the region are expected to cast their votes at 740 polling stations in the region.

Six constituencies including Damongo, Saboba, Wulensi, Karaga and Yagaba are going unopposed in the parliamentary level but the registered voters will vote in those constituencies for the presidential aspirant.

Meanwhile, voting at Bunkpurugu Constituency has been suspended because of an injunction placed on the process by a disqualified aspirant.
