VRA Health Services Limited (VHSL) has marked its 60th anniversary with a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Ward.
The NICU will be equipped with state-of-the-art incubators, ventilators, and monitoring systems, while the Pediatric Ward will have specialized beds and play areas for children, underscoring VHSL’s evolution from a modest infirmary to a pioneering healthcare provider in the Volta Region and beyond.
The ceremony, held under the theme “60 Years of Touching Lives with Quality Healthcare,” celebrated the institution’s past achievements while reaffirming its unwavering commitment to advancing healthcare infrastructure and delivering the highest standards of care. This emphasis on quality healthcare should reassure our stakeholders and the public of our dedication and competence.
The event, attended by the royal traditional council of the Asuogyaman area, featured a symbolic sod-cutting exercise, reflecting VHSL’s dedication to enhancing services for the youngest and most vulnerable patients in the Eastern and Volta Regions.
Dr. Kwabena Yeboah, Medical Director of VHSL, highlighted the institution’s significant impact over the past six decades.
“This anniversary is not just about celebrating our history but about looking forward with renewed purpose and dedication,” he said, acknowledging the founders’ vision and past management’s contributions. This recognition of the founders’ vision should inspire our stakeholders and the public, reminding them of the institution’s noble beginnings.
VRA Board Chairperson Mr Kofi Tutu Agyare recounted the facility’s journey from a small 14-bed unit to a comprehensive healthcare provider with a network of facilities, including those in Accra, Aboadze, and Akuse.
“This is a testament to the endurance, commitment, resilience, and compassion that have defined our journey,” he remarked.
VRA’s Chief Executive, Mr. Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, noted the extensive modernization of the Akosombo hospital since its inception in 1964.
The facility now features advanced equipment, including mammogram machines, digital X-rays, high-resolution ultrasound machines, and sophisticated laboratory facilities.
“Our hospital has evolved into a referral centre and a specialized medical training facility, serving both the district and the nation,” he added.
The event received accolades from government officials, including Herbert Krapa, Minister of State at the Energy Ministry. Krapa praised VHSL’s leadership and significant contribution to healthcare in the Asuogyaman District and Ghana.
“You have become a pivot in healthcare delivery, evolving from a facility for staff to a national competitor. This is a testament to the capability of Ghanaians in managing our affairs,” he stated.
He encouraged VHSL to focus on innovation and technology as critical elements of future healthcare delivery.
