Jamaican Dancehall icon Vybz Kartel is set to triumphantly return to the stage with his first concert since his release from prison.
The upcoming event, which has been eagerly awaited, is scheduled for December 2024 and will mark a significant milestone in Kartel’s career.
In an interview with Jamaica’s TVJ’s ER, Kartel expressed his excitement for the upcoming concert, which will be held in Jamaica, with plans for future performances in other countries.
The artist, known for his wit, humorously suggested that fans might need to make significant financial sacrifices to attend, saying, “They might have to sell an organ or two.”
Kartel’s announcement follows widespread demand from fans eagerly awaiting his triumphant return to live performances.
The dancehall star was released from prison on July 31, 2024, after spending 13 years behind bars.
The Jamaica Court of Appeal had ordered Kartel and his three co-defendants—Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St. John—to be freed, ruling against a retrial in the murder case of Clive “Lizard” Williams, whose body was never found.
The court’s decision, delivered unanimously, concluded that a new trial was not necessary for the interest of justice, citing concerns about the potential psychological and financial impact on the appellants.
The court noted sufficient evidence suggesting Kartel could not endure a potentially extended sentence if retried.
Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, and his co-defendants were initially convicted in 2014 for the murder of Williams, leading to their imprisonment. Their release marks a new chapter in Kartel’s life and career.
Details of the concert are expected to be released in the coming days, and fans across Jamaica, the Caribbean, and worldwide are eagerly awaiting more information.
