The Western Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the child stealing incident that occurred over the weekend in Takoradi.
They are Rose Mawusi Fiaku, 42, seamstress; and Lawson Lartey, 33, a mason believed to cohabiting at Effiakuma within the Effia Kwesiminstim Municipality.
DSP Olivia Adiku, the Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer, who briefed the media in Takoradi on Tuesday, said the Police received complaints from the boy’s mother on Friday.
She said the Department gathered real time intelligence after which an ambush was laid to trace the suspect at her hideout at Effiakuma around seven pm on Monday.
DSP Adiku said though the two denied having the child with them, the intelligence team could hear the noise of a child in their room.
She said a reinforcement team from the SWAT unit was called in and they broke the door and found the boy in the suspects room with his hair shaved.
DSP Adiku said the child has since been reunited with his family, who were directed to the European Hospital to conduct a medical check on him.
She said the suspects are currently in police custody and lauded the public for giving credible information leading to the arrest of the two suspects.
DSP Adiku cautioned the public to be wary of their personal security and avoid striking easy relationships with strangers.
It would be recalled that on Friday, March 21, this year a baby boy by name Mawusi was stolen by a woman under the pretext of buying sausages for him.
