The Ghana Police Service says it is adequately prepared to maintain law and order after the Supreme Court pronounces its verdict in August.

Cephas ArthurThe Service says it is also liaising with other security agencies such as the Prisons and Immigration Services to ensure that the peace and stability enjoyed in the country is not jeopardized.

Speaking to The Moment newspaper, the Public Relations Director of the Police Service, DSP Cephas Arthur said ?We are doing a lot by putting in place security arrangements to forestall any disturbances in the aftermath of the determination of the court case. I can assure the people of Ghana that the police are not leaving any stone unturned in that direction.?

He said as part of the arrangements, the Service has put in place effective intelligence apparatus to enable them pick pieces of information that would help them respond to situations in time.

?We are also preparing adequately, personnel and training wise, logistics and other things to ensure that in case of any disturbances, mass disorders, the police are able to quell any such situations and even where there are legitimate demonstrations. We are able to provide security to the demonstrators as well as members of the public who are going about their legitimate duties in peace,? DSP Arthur added.

He explained further that the Police Service was liaising with other stakeholders such as the National Peace Council to engage in educational campaigns to empower citizens and let them know what is expected of them as good citizens.

?We want the citizens to be empowered such that they wouldn?t have to resort to any disturbances to address their grievances and also to know what is in stall for them, what the police have put in place to provide security for them.?

DSP Cephas Arthur expressed the hope that in the aftermath of the court case there would be no cause for the Police Service to deploy any of its men with the belief that Ghanaians would conduct themselves in a good manner.
