Ghana U20 defender Jospeph Attamah is delighted his side’s hard work in training yielded the positive result in their 3-2 FIFA U20 World Cup round of 16 victory against Portugal.
The centre-back was influential as the Black Satellites blunted dangermen Bruma and Aladje at the Kadir Has Stadium in Kayseri.
Ghana were underdogs going into the match after suffering two straight defeats which left them on the brink of elimination but a handsome 4-1 win over USA revived their hopes.
They miraculously advanced as one of the best four third-place teams thanks to Egypt who beat England 2-0 in their final Group F match.
”We weren’t pleased with our performance. We’ve been training very, very hard though,” the Tema Youth player said.
“We?ve been speaking to each other a lot more and we got things right on the pitch.
“I think we used our heads more than our physical strength today and it showed. We closed down space and stopped them from putting dangerous moves together.”
Ghana will play South American side Chile on Sunday in the final quarter-final match in Istanbul.
