A civil society group called Women in Law and Development in Africa (WiLDAF) has made known that it will petition parliament to annul any list of ministerial appointment by the president that fails to ensure at least 40% representation of women.
The Governance Manager of WILDAF made this known when he was speaking on Citi FM ? an Accra-based radio station to announce the steps taken to make this a reality.
He reiterated his office?s desire to call on the legislature to reject as soon as possible any list of ministers without a proper representation of women.
?We will call on Parliament as an institution that accept and approve nominations by the president, to as a matter of urgency, reject if possible the list of ministers that will be submitted to parliament for approval,? he said.
He also acknowledged that his office is taking this bold step to ensure accountability and uphold social contract.
?This is also to hold government accountable, not only financial accountability but also social contract,? he added.
The president is yet to appoint his new Ministers for his current term in office.
