Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry in charge of trade, Robert Ahomkah-Lindsay, has emphasised NPP Government’s commitment to bringing its One District-One Factory (1D1F) to the limelight by the close of 2020.

He said, the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the 1D1F secretariat have received about 700 business proposals from the ten regions of the country with the majority falling in the agro-processing sector.

Speaking at the launch of the District Implementation Support Teams (DISTs) in Accra on Wednesday 2nd May, 2018, he noted that, government has approved 50 of these business proposals in the Greater Accra region, out of which 19 have been scrutinized and received all the necessary financial approvals to kick start. Adding “We have confidence in delivering on our promise of at least one factory in every district of the country.”

Among the districts that received the approvals include Accra Metropolis, Kpone Katanmanso, Shai Osudoku, Ngleshie Amanfrom, Ningo Prampram, Ada East and others.

The Implementation Support team he said, is expected to help the investors in the various districts to deal with issues of land acquisition and other certification processes. He however called on the traditional authorities to make available, of arable lands to feed the factories.

According to Mr. Lindsay, aside of the $2 billion Chinese facilities for the programme, there are discussions ongoing with foreign partners like the UK, Indian and Italian governments who have made strong commitments in supporting the programme.

Meanwhile, the District Information Officer of the Shai Osudoku district, Beatrice Arthur confirmed that the district has received and approved three manufacturing and energy processing companies, as well as one meat processing factory, one energy processing and a sugar processing factory which are taking steps to commence as soon as possible.

Present at the launch were Ishmael Ashitey, the Greater Accra Regional minister, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, the Mayor of Accra, Gifty Ohene Konadu, National Coordinator for 1D1F, and MP for Akyem South, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister of Communications and MP for Ablekuma West Constituency, MMDCEs, CSOs and may others.
