After exciting exchanges in the Zongo Communities Special Football Tournament on Saturday, 11th June, the men have been separated from the boys, and today Sunday 12th June, the Semi finals and finals will take place at the Madina Astro turf.
The qualified teams are Mamobi, New Town, Fadama and Nima who really exhibited some good football.
The teams that fell out were Shukura, Madina, Tudu and Cowlane, but they accepted defeat and promised to make amends to their games and come back better in other games in the future.
Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the 13th African Games who was at the field to see everything for himself congratulated the players and officials of the communities who have sailed through to the semi finals.
He said the main purpose of the event is to create awareness and sensitize people, especially the Zongo community about the upcoming 13th African Games to be held in Accra in 2023.
He praised the organisers for being modern and using VAR to determine disputes on the field of play.
He said Ghana will host 54 other nations, and every Ghanaian must contribute to many the African Games 2023 a success.
He appealed to Ghanaians to be disciplined and show love during the Games, so as to maintain or improve the proverbial Ghanaian hospitality.
Also present at the first day of the Zongos Football Tournament were LOC members, Dr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, Reks Brobby, Mr. Ahmed Osumanu,, Ms. Eva Okyere and Ms Joyce Datsa.
