Gender Advocacy group, Women in Law and Development in Africa, (WILDAF) has commended President Mahama for the appointment of Prof Naana Opoku Agyemang and Nana Oye Lithur to the Education and Gender, Children And Social Protection Ministries.

Speaking to Citi News, National programme coordinator for WILDAF Ghana, Bernice Sam, says the experience of the two women will ensure they are effective in their new roles.

?We are commending His Excellency President John Mahama for putting forward three women in the second list that he has put together. Of course there are two new entrants in addition to Miss Hannah Tetteh and we have confidence that they will do well,? she stated.

?We believe that their names came up based on consultations and discussions not only with themselves but also with people around them who said yes to their nomination so the president believes in their capabilities to head these two ministries,? she said

Madam Sam further disclosed, ?The Professor from the UCC has been an educationist for many years and has been a very competent leader so we believe that coming from academia; she will be able to bring her experience in academia into the public sector i.e. the Ministry Of Education.?

?Similarly, Nana Oye comes into that portfolio with a lot of experience in human rights and gender advocacy. She has been advocating for marginalised groups and we believe she will do well but it is contingent on how well she is able to connect with her network in civil society and government internationally,? she added.

President John Dramani Mahama last week Friday sent his first list of ministerial appointments to Parliament?s Appointments Committee for approval. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agymang and Nana Oye Lithur were selected as heads for the Ministry of Education and Gender, Children and Social Protection respectively.
