Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) star Latif Blessing, has spent the last three years playing in Major League Soccer in America.
The diminutive forward first signed in 2017 with Sporting Kansas City, whose interest in the then-20-year-old was reported by News Ghana at the time.
Blessing was quick to make a positive impact in Kansas City, but was picked soon thereafter in the 2017 expansion draft, by Los Angeles FC (LAFC). He’s since become a fixture in LA’s starting XI.
In the current MLS season, the 22-year-old Ghanaian has provided consistent energy boosts despite playing multiple positions for a club that’s in first place in the league’s Western Conference.
LAFC has been the best team in the MLS this season, with team captain Carlos Vela spearheading a deadly offense. But LAFC’s lock-down defense has been just as important for a squad that’s now leading the way in MLS betting projections.
Blessing’s hustle on the defensive side has been particularly impressive, particularly given that he started his career with more of an offensive focus.
He’s displayed a knack for making plays in the midfield, getting to loose balls first, and setting up teammates, and is certainly among the main reasons the odds favor LA for a title.
As well as he’s done for himself in the MLS though, Blessing, is reportedly not long for the American league. According to a report from Kick GH, the up-and-coming speedster will likely be playing in Europe next year.
Blessing, is said not to be open to re-signing with LAFC once his contract expires at the end of the current season, and has several offers from European and Asian clubs.
The report also notes that Blessing had already expressed a desire to play in Europe before signing with Kansas City in the first place.
These are all rumors at this stage, and it’s no secret that football talk in the summer can be all over the place. However, given Blessing’s sterling play for LAFC, it is entirely likely that clubs around the world will be interested in signing the Accra native.
He is versatile, having shown the ability to score goals for Liberty Professionals and the hustle and grit to excel on defense for LAFC.
He is also young, meaning he likely hasn’t touched the ceiling of his own potential yet. These factors, combined with his infectious energy on the field, should make him a highly sought-after player, even among the ultra-competitive clubs of Europe.
It is also only natural for Blessing to be focused on Europe as a goal. The world’s best leagues – the English Premier League, Bundesliga, and La Liga, to name three – are in Europe, and consequently, many of the sport’s biggest stars, like Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe, and Sergio Arguero, play there as well. Considering Blessings’s palpable self-belief, chances are he fancies himself as one of the beautiful game’s top up-and-comers, and would, therefore, want to test his skills against football’s elite.
For now, Blessing remains in the midst of a title chase at LAFC. No doubt Ghana football fans will be watching, though, to see what his next move might be.
