The African Da`wa committee has officially presented awards to the winners of the Aal and As-Haab 8th quiz (musaabaka) competition at the Ahlu Sunna Wal Jamaa`a (ASWAJ) headquarters.

Out of the 1000 contestants who participated in the competition, 10 contestants excelled as the victors with two ladies taking the first and second places.

The award winners, Halimatu Sadia Alhassan and Tayiba Yussif, who emerged as the first and the second winners of the competition received Samsung laptops each while the third winner, Halid Haruna also received a digital Quran.

Another two digital Quran and four Samsung Galaxy phones were also presented to the rest of the award winners of the competition.

The Committee Coordinator, Sheikh Khidir Iddris Adam said the committee, which was sponsored by Sheikh Bandar Bun Salmaan from Saudi Arabia had been in Ghana for eight years and had branches in other parts of the world like the United States.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency, Sheikh Khidir said: “The aim of the committee is to provide correct knowledge [of Islam] to the Ghanaian Muslim about the correct teaching and life of the Prophet Muhammad and the religion as a whole.’’

He said: ‘’About 19000 questions were disseminated to Muslims in the universities, the senior high schools and among some Muslim scholars’’ who then answer them and sent them back for marking.

He said ‘’what we have been hearing or seeing on the media about Buku Haram and the Al-kaaida is out of Islam and even pains Muslim that people are taking these groups as Muslims because Islam does not accept what they are doing’.’

‘’ A proper Muslim is the one who wants peace and wished for his brother the same peace as he wished for him or herself,’’ he said.

The award winners expressed happiness and gratitude to the sponsor and the Executives of the Committee and wished that programme would continue so that Ghanaian Muslims would continue to benefit from the knowledge it provided them.

They called on all the Ghanaian Muslims to participate in the competition as it was not for the prizes alone but the knowledge that they will acquire from it.

In all 10 awards were presented to the deserving winners of the competition with two laptops, three digital Qur`ans and five Samsung Galaxy phones.
