Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the Mpumalanga Organised Crime division arrested the child’s 25-year-old mother and two other women who allegedly assisted with the transaction in Nelspruit on Tuesday.

“Nomasonto Angel Khoza allegedly sold her biological daughter to a 45-year-old woman at a price of R5000‚” said Mulaudzi.

“The child was found in Springs‚ Gauteng‚ and the mother‚ as well as Nomthandazo Nkuna‚ 18‚ who assisted in the transaction‚ appeared before the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.”

Mulaudzi added that the buyer of the child would appear before the same court on Thursday for alleged ties to human trafficking.

Both Nkuna and Khoza will remain in custody until December 21 for a formal bail application.
