Focus Women Network, Ghana (FOWNEG), a non-profit making organisation, on Thursday called on women to contribute their quota to societal development irrespective of their social standing.

Hajia Barikisu Mustapha Bawey, the President of FOWNEG, said women had the capacity to influence change and could do everything within their power to ensure that they transformed the little space they found themselves.

She said FOWNEG had been operating in all the regions over the years to help improve the lives of women and children in underserved communities.

Hajia Bawey was speaking at a meeting to help equip members of the Network with sustainable skill-based training that would empower them to contribute their quota to society.

She, however, encouraged women not to relent in their efforts in shaping societies but rather be patient and know that God would answer their prayers at the appropriate time.

Hajia Bawey advised them to take the upbringing of their children seriously, no matter the initiatives they embarked on to make society better, to enable them to become responsible adults in future.

FOWNEG seeks to improve the living standards of women and the youth in communities through education, reproductive and mental health, sustainable economic empowerment, leadership and sensitisation on gender-based violence.

It is also aimed at fighting Violence Against Women and Girls, enhancing Social Protection Systems and proving legal aid.

Hajia Zara Neequaye, the Board Chairperson FOWNEG, called for external support to ensure the sustainability of the Network as they tried to put smiles on the faces of the underprivileged.

She said though the Network was doing all it could to provide support to people and communities, it faced financial challenges and, therefore, called for donor assistance to enable it to carry out its mandate.

“Collective support would help the Network to thrive in diverse ways for the development of communities,” she added.
