Women’s Sports Commission Celebrates Achievers

Madam Elizabeth King, the chairperson of the Women’s Commission of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has on behalf of the Commission sent a goodwill message to all women achievers especially in sport, as the International Day of Women 2020 is observed.

She recollected some brave women who had done their part in sports like Alice Anum, Hannah Afriyie, Grace Armah, Ethel Jacks, Ann Myers, Alberta Sackey, Ajara Mohammed, Anita Fourdjour, Christiana Dodoo, Ayorkor Chavez and Rose Hart.

She stated that they have handed the baton to us to continue to lift sports in Ghana higher and higher.

Madam King who is vice president of the Ghana Hockey Association (GHA), and an executive of the African Confederation noted now there are personalities like Mercy Tagoe, Dr. Ornella Sathoud, Faruiza Osman, Martha Bissaw, Rose Amoaniwaa, Ruth Adade, Zinabu Issah, Grace Obour and others who are making Ghana proud.

“I want, on this day to urge all women in sports- athletes, handlers and administrators to join hands to help raise the flag of Ghana in all disciplines in International Sports” she said.

“Those of us who would have wished they had been once a star, it is not too late to show your support in cash or in kind for the younger generation, to help demystify certain misconceptions about women doing sports and to get more women into Administration as well” she expressed.

“Together we can make it happen, because with a little motivation we can and will be there” she stressed.

She urged Ghanaian women, especially women into sports to arise, and resolve on this day-International Women’s Day to do their best for mother Ghana.

“On this day therefore, I salute all women who are in sports, women sports enthusiasts for your show of support and the spirit to help raise sports high and we can do more”.

“On behalf of the Women Sport Commission of Ghana, I wish on this day to say AYEKOO to all women achievers especially in SPORTS” she added.
