Woodfields Development Company has issued a strong rebuttal to recent allegations challenging its ownership of prime land located at Chrematinville-Borteyman in Accra.

At a press conference held on Thursday, the company’s Director of Operations and Public Affairs, Benard Kusi Appau, firmly defended Woodfields’ long-standing claim to the land, which he said the company has legally occupied and developed since 2003. He described the current controversy as part of a “calculated campaign of lies by individuals with questionable identities.”

Mr. Appau clarified that Woodfields Development Company is distinct from Comet Properties, although both firms are subsidiaries of Groupe Chrematin, a conglomerate founded by prominent lawyer and real estate entrepreneur, Nana Odeneho Kyeremateng.

According to Appau, the land in dispute stems from a protracted arrangement with the Nungua Stool and a legal fight over 1,650 acres of land previously known as the Nungua Farms. He recounted how Woodfields entered the scene in 2003, agreeing to fund litigation and negotiations aimed at reclaiming the land for the Nungua Stool from the government—an endeavor that cost the company over $20.5 million.

Despite a 2012 consent judgment affirming Woodfields’ entitlement to 217 acres of the land, Appau noted that criminal elements and imposters, including alleged members of the Borteyfio family, have continued attempts to encroach on the property and engage in unlawful sales. He condemned these actions as deliberate efforts to undermine legitimate ownership and development.

Mr. Appau also criticized a 2021 High Court decision that cast doubt on the company’s site plans over missing technical plotting stamps. He insisted that the stamps are present on the original documents and revealed that Woodfields has appealed the ruling. A stay of execution, he added, has since been granted and remains in effect.

“We have followed due process every step of the way. We believe in the rule of law, and we will not allow criminals to sabotage our investments, destroy our infrastructure, or intimidate us,” he stated emphatically.

He warned the public to refrain from purchasing land from unauthorized individuals or groups, cautioning that Woodfields does not engage land guards but instead works in close collaboration with the Ghana Police Service to maintain law and order.

Mr. Appau concluded by reaffirming that Woodfields Development Company possesses all the necessary documentation to prove ownership of the disputed land and will continue to protect its interests within the bounds of the law.

The statement comes amid growing land disputes in Accra’s fast-developing eastern corridor, where demand for real estate continues to intensify.
