Presidential nominee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo did not make the 30,000 votes as promised by party’s parliamentary candidate for Asante Akim North constituency of the Ashanti Region, Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi.
Provisional results indicate that he polled 25,876 votes representing 70.81% and the parliamentary candidate himself got 23,250 votes representing 63.66%
Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi last month promised to decline parliament if the party’s flagbearer fails to garner over 30,000 votes at the close of polls from the area.
He was optimistic that Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo will convincingly sweep a little over 30,000 votes as the presidential candidate whilst he as the parliamentary candidate will make up to 50,000 votes.
The private legal practitioner believed his performance will supersede that of the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, who made a little over 14,000 at the last elections.
“Kwame mark my words, I will decline parliament if Nana Addo does not win up to 30,000 votes in the Asante Akim North constituency. I will also get up to 50,000 votes as the MP and there is no doubt about that”, he bragged on Abusua Nkomo hosted by Kwame Adinkra.
But at the close of polls on Wednesday, the candidate failed to secure the margin of win he predicted raising questions if he will indeed decline parliament for failing.
