Seven people believed to be supporters of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have sustained machete wounds at Wulensi in the Northern Region after supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) allegedly attacked them on Thursday.
It is yet unclear what triggered the attack, but tensions had been mounting in the area following an earlier clash between supporters of the two parties at Nakpayili over a parcel of land.
The injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Some of them sustained gushing wounds on their faces, near their eyes.
The police had to intervene to calm matters and restore peace. No arrests have been made yet over the attack.
This is the third such clash between supporters of the two parties in two weeks. There was an earlier clash in front of the Nima residence of the NPP’s flag bearer in Accra followed by another clash between supporters in Asokore in the Eastern Region.
