The ban on Samuel Abu Jinapor, Member of Parliament for Damongo and Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, is a significant development in the political landscape.
A high-profile government delegation’s attempt to lift this ban was deferred by Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Soale Jewi of the Gonja Kingdom.
Led by Defense Minister Dominic Nitiwul, the delegation also included Chieftaincy Minister Stephen Asamoah Boateng and Savannah Regional Minister [Full Name]. It aimed to resolve the ban imposed on Abu Jinapor over allegations of insubordination and abuse of authority.
Representatives from the National House of Chiefs and the Council of State visited the Jakpa Palace earlier, where Yagbonwura resides.
Sources at the Jakpa Palace disclosed to 3news.com that Yagbonwura requested the delegation to return later due to his imminent travel to the Mamprugu Kingdom for a significant visit, during which he intends to consult with his paramount chiefs.
“Yagbonwura emphasized the need for further consultation with his council before any decision could be made,” the sources stated.
On July 21, 2024, Yagbonwura banned Abu Jinapor from entering any palace in Gonjaland. This decision was prompted by allegations of misconduct, including insubordination and abuse of authority, that the MP has vehemently denied.
In a video circulated on social media, Abu Jinapor addressed Yagbonwura with utmost respect, acknowledging his seniority in the community and disputing the allegations levied against him.
The postponement of the delegation’s appeal underscores the complex and delicate nature of the ongoing tensions and the intricate process of resolving the dispute between Abu Jinapor and the traditional leadership of Gonjaland.
