The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) workers stationed under Zoomlion in the Kadjebi District of Ghana’s Oti Region have given their employers a strict request.
They have threatened to strike if their overdue allowances, pending for 18 months, are unpaid within two weeks.
Johnson Asiamah, a team leader, expressed their grievances to Citi News, highlighting the severe impact of the delayed payments on their lives.
He stated that despite working across the country for Zoomlion under the Youth Employment Agency, they have been waiting to receive their allowances for approximately 18 months.
Asiamah also mentioned that some of their colleagues had tragically passed away due to the inability to afford medical care, while others were facing eviction from their homes.
He emphasized the urgent need for management to prioritize their financial dues, stating that the lack of payment has severely impacted their ability to sustain themselves and their families.
Asiamah asserted that if their demands are unmet, they will have no choice but to initiate a work stoppage.
The workers, some of whom have dedicated between 10 to 18 years of service, underscored the urgency of their situation. They called on Zoomlion and the YEA to expedite the resolution of their payment arrears.
Amidst the looming deadline, stakeholders are urged to intervene and facilitate a resolution to prevent disruptions in essential public services provided by the affected workers.
