Yemen’s former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, suspected of links with powerful Houthi rebels, calls on his successor Abd Rabu Mansour Hadi to hold presidential and parliamentary elections to end the crisis.elections

In a statement taking the form of an open letter, Saleh also calls on Hadi to stop his backing for a UN resolution imposing an asset freeze and a global travel ban on Saleh and two Houthi commanders.

“National unity will come only after reconciliation with Saleh’s General People’s Congress and other political powers,” Saleh says in the statement posted on his party’s website.
