Nigerian songstress Yemi Alade is overjoyed after receiving her first-ever solo Grammy nomination in the Best African Music Performance category. The nomination comes for her inspiring track “Tomorrow.”

In an interview with CNN’s Larry Madowo at the 15th-anniversary event in Lagos, Alade shared her excitement and deep emotions about the achievement. “It feels surreal. It feels like a miracle to me. Like a miracle has happened in my life. It’s a good time to be alive. I almost thought this moment might never come,” she said.

The singer also spoke about how the nomination has reinforced her belief in perseverance and determination: “I felt seen because it gave me reassurance that anybody out there can become anything. You just have to believe and not stop. Even if the world wants you to stop, don’t stop.”

This milestone cements Yemi Alade’s place as one of Africa’s most influential voices in global music.

Other nominees in the Best African Music Performance category include Asake & Wizkid for “MMS,” Burna Boy for “Higher,” Chris Brown featuring Davido & Lojay for “Sensational,” and Tems for “Love Me JeJe.”
