Taifa Stars coach Dutchman Mart Nooij
The Dutch coach said his ultimate goal is to turn Tanzania into a very competitive team and ensure that his players prove themselves on the international scene. ?We want to have some serious test games.
Above all, some young Tanzanian players have to prove themselves in international games,? he told the COSAFA website.
The coach said they are very pleased to be participating in this year?s tournament in South Africa next month and he is looking forward to a tough challenge against some of the countries he knows.
?We are playing Swaziland, Madagascar and Lesotho and all the games will be tough. Luckily, I know all of them from the past. We are very pleased to participate in this tournament as a guest nation.
Tanzania will take every opponent very seriously,? Nooij said. He said he is introducing a mixture of African/Tanzanian and European/Holland styles of play.
?The play style of the national team of Tanzania is a mixture of African/Tanzanian and European/Holland elements of football. This all has to do with the background of players and myself as coach,? the Dutch tactician said.
Some of the challenges he said he is facing is the fact that he is also coaching the Under 23 side, but he is grateful that he is getting a chance to prepare the young players.
?At the moment, I am coaching two national teams, the Under-23 team too. As coach of the country?s most important team, I am trying to improve the conditions and circumstances of the national team,? Nooij said.
?At the same time I am preparing young and talented players on international level so they are skilled to take over from the ?big brothers?.
