The Ada chapter of Youth Arise Ghana has disproved several allegations levelled against ElectroChem Ghana Limited that the company’s activities in the Ada Songor Lagoon have detrimental effects on the people of Ada.

ElectroChem Ghana Limited, a salt producing company owned by Dr. McDan Korley started producing salt in the lagoon after some chiefs of Ada has leased the lagoon enclave to the company in 2020.

However, some other chiefs and the people of Ada who are not in support of the privatization of the lagoon questioned the legality of the lease and demanded the full details were subjected to diverse malpractices with the company accused of its inhuman treatment.

District Chief Executive (DCE) of the association, Amos Martey Martefinya who addressed the media in a press conference on Wednesday said, the association remains neutral in the fight over the Ada Lagoon, however noted that activities of ElectroChem Ghana will revive the image of Ada economically.

He said: “Ada Traditional Council does not take any step to sell the Lagoon but rather was leased by Government to the private investor through the ministry responsible for minerals and natural resources”

Among other allegations, he noted that, the lease agreement is 15 years not 75 years as alleged by some people, adding that the mining company has no plan to relocate communities along the Ada Lagon enclave but community pans will be constructed as means to engage the communities in the salt production business.

He also mentioned that, McDan has disbursed interest free loan to business minded women in Ada in order to solve the economic woes of these women.

Mr. Amos noted: “Some communities hit with flood in Ada West District have accused the ElectroChem for this predicament. These communities have been experiencing flood every year before the arrival of ElectroChem. It is rather ElectroChem who t has constructed drainage systems in these communities to help curb the situation”

He again revealed that, the first West Africa Sports Clinic in the history of Africa is going to be situated in Ada funded by ElectroChem Ghana Limited which work on the sports clinic has already started.

Amos Martey Martefinya, has appealed to the youth of Ada to rally their support behind ElectroChem Ghana Limited build Ada.
