The Zambian government has called for the establishment of a dedicated agency at the United Nations (UN) which will be dealing with issues affecting internally displaced persons, an official said on Tuesday.

Lazarus Kapambwe, Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, said it was important for the world never to lose track on the welfare of internally displaced persons whose circumstances were often dire because there was no dedicated UN agency toward their plight.

He hoped that Africa would raise the profile of the Kampala Convention on the Internally displaced persons at the UN so that the convention could acquire international status, according to a release. Enditem
