Covid Vaccine

The Zambian government said on Monday that preparatory work on genomic sequencing concerning the introduction of the COVID-19 vaccine has reached an advanced stage.

Minister of Health Jonas Chanda said the government has so far learned more on the expected immunological response from the vaccination campaign as well as its effect on the overall epidemiology of the pandemic.

He however said the ministry was still waiting for cabinet direction on when to commence the COVID-19 vaccination campaign.

Meanwhile, the country recorded 468 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The new cases were picked from 5,535 tests conducted during the period representing an eight percent positivity.

According to the Ministry of Health figures, this brings the cumulative cases to 79,002 while 589 patients were discharged during the period, bringing the total recoveries to 75,087. The total death toll related to the disease rose to 1,098. Enditem
