Zambia said on Tuesday that it was in talks with a leading Indian solar-powered water pump manufacturer on introducing water pumps that can be controlled remotely over mobile phones.

Chanda Kabwe, coordinator of Zambia’s Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit, toured Shakti Pumps’s manufacturing plant in Indore, an Indian city, according to a press release.

According to him, introduction of solar-powered water pumps has the potential to increase productivity of smallholder farmers.

Zambia, he said, is keen to join the International Solar Alliance in order to benefit from the new trends regarding solar energy for efficiency in water supply. Enditem
