Zambia officially declares voting day a public holiday

The Zambian government has declared Thursday a public holiday to allow citizens to participate in the general election, a senior official said on Tuesday.

Secretary to the Cabinet, Roland Msiska, who is the head of the public service, however, said institutions providing essential services should make necessary arrangements to ensure that the provision of such services is not disrupted, according to a statement released to the media.

Zambia holds presidential, parliamentary and local government elections on Thursday, alongside a referendum meant to amend part three of the constitution that deals with people’s rights. Enditem
