Zambia police hands over cooperation document to China’s Nantong

Zambian police on Monday handed over a memorandum of understanding document aimed at formalizing cooperation with the public security bureau of Nantong city, China’s Jiangsu province.

Kakoma Kanganja, Inspector-General of the Zambia Police, handed over the documents that have been approved by the Justice Ministry, to Chen Xu, Deputy Mayor of Nantong Municipal and director of the city’s public security bureau, during a ceremony held in Lusaka, the Zambian capital.

The police chief said the MoU meant to enhance cooperation with the Nantong police will only be signed after the document has been verified and approved by the Ministry of Public Security of China.

According to him, the MoU will allow the two sides to hold regular meetings, foster close ties in exchange and cooperation on drug control, anti-terrorism, combating transnational crime, hunting for those who have fled across borders and protect legal rights of citizens of Zambia and the Chinese city and enterprises investing and residing in either territory.

The agreement will also allow the two sides to conduct exchanges and trainings on law enforcement to strengthen police skills.

The two sides, he said, had friendly and candid exchanges based on the principle of equality of mutual benefit which have evolved to the process of developing a bilateral cooperation.

On his part, the Nantong deputy mayor expressed the city’s commitment to working with the Zambia police in cooperation in various areas.

Chen further thanked the police in Zambia for protecting the rights and interests of Nantong enterprises and citizens in Zambia.

According to him, there were a number of citizens from the city who have invested in Zambia, a move that has resulted in the creation of jobs and stimulation of economic development.

He hoped that the signing of the MoU will create steps aimed at increasing exchange programs between the two parties.

“It is our common aspiration for the police of our two countries to consolidate China and Zambia friendship, strengthen police affairs cooperation, and further safeguard stability,” he said.
