The Zambian government said on Thursday that it has finalized the development of a draft Science, Technology and Innovation policy aimed at enhancing the development of sciences and technology.

Nkandu Luo, Minister of Higher Education, said the government planned to embark on the development of a master plan and implementation framework to actualize the process of transformation.

In remarks delivered when she met Shamika Sirimanne, Director of Division on Technology and Logistics at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva, Switzerland, the Zambian minister said her government appreciated the support of the UN body in enhancing science, technology and innovation to a higher level.

She said the support from the UN body was required at the moment in order to move the process of implementation, according to a release from her ministry.

According to her, the partnership being created with the UN body to focus on science, technology and innovation was vital in development of the education sector.

She thanked the UNCTAD for providing funding which will go a long way in transforming all the science institutions under one body so as to leverage the functions. Enditem
