Zambia saw an increase in the number of gender-based violence cases in the fourth quarter of 2020, figures released by the police on Monday have shown.

The country recorded 8,557 gender-based violence cases in October-December last year, up from 7,640 cases during the third quarter of the year, representing an increase of 917, or more than 10 percent.

A total of 1,723 juveniles, 75 percent of them girls, were abused during the quarter, accounting for 20 percent of all the victims of gender-based violence, according to the police figures. Enditem
