Zambia police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the number of people who died in road accidents increased over the same period of last year, when 563 people died.
He said 1,762 persons were seriously injured in the second quarter of 2016 as compared to 1,603 persons in the second quarter of 2015 which represents an increase of 159.
According to the police spokesperson, most of the accidents were attributed to excessive speed, misjudging clearance distance, failing to keep to the near side and cutting in.
“As Zambia Police, we wish to appeal to all road users to adhere to traffic rules and regulations in order to reduce the number of traffic accidents on our roads,” he said in a statement. Enditem
