Zambia’s environmental regulator approved 1,129 investment projects last year after meeting environmental requirements, according to a statement released Tuesday.

The Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) said it considered 1,129 projects against the annual target of 1,000 with a total investment of more than 6.76 billion U.S. dollars. These projects were involved in mining, infrastructure, tourism, agriculture, forestry as well as energy sectors.

According to the statement, 51 projects were rejected due to inadequate or lack of mitigation measures and for being located in environmentally sensitive locations. And 20 projects were deferred due to insufficient project information for decision-making.
