About 50 farmers, including agro-dealers and agro-processors, have shown interest to attend the 2019 Guangzhou World Agricultural Expo, one of the organizers said on Thursday.
The expo, which has attracted hundreds of exhibitors from 20 countries, will be held from Sept. 5 to 7 2019 under the support and guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China.
Given Katuta, organizer of the trip and a lawmaker in the Zambian parliament, said 50 participants have so far applied to attend the expo, with six having already paid while more are expected to make payments in the coming days.
She said in an interview that it was vital for the Zambian participants to attend the expo as it will expose them to more advanced technologies in the agricultural sector.
The expo, she added, will also give the participants an opportunity to interact with participants from other countries and involve themselves in business-to-business meetings.
“It is a very important trip in the sense that as our country is looking at diversification of economy to see how the country can try by all means not to depend on resources like minerals which easily get depleted, we need to invest more in agriculture,” she said.
Zambia, he said, has vast arable land which needs to be tapped to boost agricultural production, adding that China offers some valuable experiences on how it has advance its agricultural production.
According to her, attending the expo will have other spiral benefits and that the cooperation between the two countries in the agriculture sector will be boosted.
She said China has set an example in agriculture development and that it would be important for Zambia to use the cooperation and learn on how improve the agriculture sector. Enditem
