Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Wednesday called for prudent utilization of public resources.
The Zambian leader said the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with severe droughts and floods that ravaged the country have negatively impacted the smooth implementation of the 2020 budget.
Lungu, speaking at a swearing-in ceremony of a new controller of internal audits at the finance ministry and a deputy auditor-general, said the country was faced with challenges of meagre resources.
The Zambian leader urged the two to upscale their dedication to duty by ensuring prudent utilization of the resources and ensure strict compliance with public finance management.
He urged them to identify and control weaknesses that might exacerbate misapplication and mismanagement of resources and tighten management of public service resources.
“I and the people of Zambia expect nothing less than total accountability in the utilization of resources,” he said. Enditem
