Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Thursday said he will not go against the will of the people in next year’s presidential election, according to a presidential spokesperson.
Isaac Chipampe said the Zambian leader, who was quoted in some section of the media saying he will remain president whether people like it or not when campaigning for a parliamentary election in the northern part of the country said he did not utter such words.
“The President did not say ‘I will remain president whether Zambians like it or not’ as one tabloid newspaper has imputed in their edition today,” he said in an emailed statement.
The president, he said, has found it disturbing that some sections of the media decided to misquote him when he held public rallies in Kasama district in the north of the country.
The spokesperson added that the Zambian leader was a democrat who respects the will of the people.
