Zambian Vice President Inonge Wina has commended a Chinese firm for investing in a cement manufacturing plant in the country.
The Zambian vice president commended China National Building Material Group of Companies in Africa for investing 200 million U.S. dollars in the first phase of the industrial project.
In remarks delivered when she toured the plant situated in Chongwe district, about 46 kilometers east of Lusaka, the Zambian capital on Tuesday, the vice president urged the firm to explore other business opportunities in other sectors apart from the construction sector, according to the state news agency, the Zambia News and Information Service.
“This industrial project is commendable given its positive impact on the economic recovery agenda of the country. I am happy that more than 400 direct jobs have been created at this operation,” she was quoted as saying.
The government, she said, was appreciative of the partnership which she said was the single largest investment in Africa by the firm.
Zhang Yuanci, the company’s General Manager, praised the government for creating a conducive environment for the private sector to flourish.
The Chinese firm is operating in Zambia under its subsidiary Mpande Limestone-Sinoma Cement Zambia Limited. Enditem
