Year-on-year inflation in Zambia stood at 9.8 percent in August, down from 9.9 percent in July, according to consumer price data released on Thursday.
According to figures released by the Zambia Statics Agency, the slowdown was triggered by mainly price movements in food items including meat, chicken, fruits, rice and eggs, among others.
In its monthly release, the agency said annual food inflation declined to 11.3 percent in August from 12 percent in July while annual non-food inflation increased to 7.8 percent from 7.2 percent.
On the other hand, the month-on-month inflation slowed to 0.3 percent in August from 0.4 percent in July mainly due to price decreases in some non-food items like public bus fares and fuels. Enditem
