Zambia’s inflation increased during the month of December compared to the previous month, the country’s statistics agency said on Thursday.

The annual inflation rate increased to 11.7 percent in December from 10.8 percent in November, indicating an increase of 0.9 percentage points, according to the Zambia Statistics Agency.

The increase in the annual rate of inflation was mainly attributed to price increase in food items, he added.

According to the statistics agency, the food inflation rate for December 2019 was recorded at 15.2 percent compared to 13.5 percent recorded in November 2019, indicating an increase of 1.7 percentage points.

Meanwhile, the month-on-month inflation rate for December 2019 was recorded at 1.6 percent indicating an increase of 0.6 percentage points from 1.0 percent recorded in November 2019. Enditem
