Zanu PF Ministers Demand A $10m Bribe From Investors ? Thabo Mbeki

Senior ministers in the ruling Zanu PF government are reported to have demanded a US$10 million bribe from investors linked to South Africa?s African National Congress (ANC) to facilitate an investment in diamond mining and other businesses in the country.

President Mugabe has since been fumed after the former South African president Thabo Mbeki [whose wife Zanele is involved in the business] made this known during Zimbabwe?s Diamond Conference in Victoria Falls from November 12-13.

Addressing delegates at the conference, Mbeki noted Zimbabwe?s resources must be used to genuinely to benefit all sections of the society.

?This must also mean that this country?s political leadership, including all the parties which serve in the current inclusive government established because of the GPA, must absolutely ensure that the diamond mining industry is not governed by a predatory elite which uses its access to state power to enrich itself, against the interests of the people as a whole, acting in collusion with the mining companies,? Mbeki said.

Reports say that Mbeki mentioned the name of the ministers, some of whom have big businesses from nowhere and also promised to give evidence of this extortion.

Among the proof is information clearly showing the names of the ministers, who they met, when and where and how they demanded bribes.

Meanwhile, both Mugabe and his spokesman George Charamba have neither denied nor attested to this allegation.

Though several Zanu PF ministers also live in big mansions with their sources of income are still unknown Mugabe has failed to question that.
